Salford Town Hall

Project Type: Residential

The X1 Town Hall project is the conversion of the redundant Town Hall and Magistrates building which site within the conservation and regeneration area of Chapel Street, central Salford.

The buildings interiors have been substantially altered and subdivided over the years but a large amount of original paneling, doors, doorframes, fireplaces and stained glass windows still remain in-tact.

DK-Architects approach was to look to sensitively redevelop the existing building in order to find a new use for the building, preserve and enhance the building by working closely with conservation and English Heritage, fit in with the wider regeneration program and offer a flexible and sustainable use for the longevity of the building.

The design looks to create high quality apartments set over 3 floors, offering various types and sizes of apartments for maximum choice. One of our main intentions was to work with the existing structure and window openings in order to preserve as much of the building fabric as possible and removing many of the lesser and more recent additions. The project is set for completion Autumn 2015.
