X1 Town Hall, Salford

X1 Town Hall is the conversion of the listed Town Hall and Magistrates’ building, which sit within the conservation and regeneration area of Chapel Street, central Salford.

The buildings’ interiors have been substantially altered and subdivided over the years but a large amount of original panelling, doors, doorframes, fireplaces and stained glass windows still remain intact.

Our approach was to look to sensitively redevelop the existing building, working closely with conservation and English Heritage to find a sustainable new use that would preserve and enhance the building and fit in with the wider regeneration programme.

The design created high quality apartments set over 3 floors, offering various types and sizes of apartments for maximum choice. One of our main intentions was to work with the existing structure and window openings in order to preserve as much of the building fabric as possible, removing many of the lesser and more recent additions.
